This past week we had our first experience with our new format for Jr. Cougar small groups. Our third, fourth, and fifth grade "bigs" led our first and second grade "littles" in a small group activity. The activity they participated in was similar to the the one our faculty had done during our devotional time and was led by Mrs. Yoder.
“Know this, my beloved brothers:
let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger”
James 1:9
"A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion"
Proverbs 18:2
Using these focus verses our Jr. Cougar small groups had picture cards they used to help them practice the skills of listening and speaking. When they were speaking about the picture they chose they were encouraged to share a way/s it reminded them of God. While the initial goal of this small group lesson was to practice listening with our ears, hearts, and minds the outcome was even better! Our Jr. Cougars shared their personal Biblical worldviews by seeing, listening, speaking, and connecting Jesus with everyday pictures and moments in their lives.
Here are a few of the JOYS that were shared:
- Car Mirror Reflection- This reminds me of the reflection of Jesus.
- Legos- Oh I know! Sometimes when I’m sad, Jesus builds me up, like Legos!
- Doorknob- This reminds me of a door and I’m on one side of sin and Jesus opened the door.
- Shipping Containers- this reminds me of when Dave and I were sitting and Jesus was between us.
- Flower- 5th grade leader helped and added it’s like how we grow in Jesus!
- Bag of Trash- it’s like when we take out the trash, it’s like our sin, Jesus takes out our sin.
- Picture of a Red Spider -The spider is red it reminds me of the blood of Jesus.
- Picture of Bread - This reminds me of the passover when Jesus broke the bread for us.
Our Jr. Cougars were shining Jesus during our small group time and are learning and demonstrating how to STAND for Him!
Our CCS Boys Varsity Soccer Team and their coaches, Mr. Phil Yoder (our CCS athletic Director) and Mr. Kevin Focht (our CCS HS Bible Teacher) hosted a Jr. Cougar Soccer Clinic for our Jr. Cougars in grades 3-5 last Wednesday! Our twenty-four Jr. Cougars who attended the clinic learned how to move and groove, kick and pass while having fun and fellowshipping with the coaches, team, and each other!
As if that wasn't enough, at the end of the clinic our Jr. Cougars received a varsity team picture that they were able to get personally autographed by the players. They were also gifted a water bottle and free admission game passes for themselves and a parent to the Thursday night game where they got to take the field with the players at the starting line up and open the game in prayer together.
Our Jr. Cougars scored big through this experience! The soccer clinic and our varsity soccer players and coaches were and are abosolute winners! Whoop! Whoop!
